Dedicated Adventurer Photographs the World From Extreme Vantage Points

Jimmy Chin is both an extreme adventurer and an extremely talented photographer. Combining his passions enables him to capture some absolutely stunning shots from angles most of us would never even dream of. A professional climber, mountaineer, and skier, Chin also works for National Geographic, The North Face, and a variety of other clients. He maintains an Instagram page that has one of the most amazing marriages between art and adventure that we have seen in a long time.

Over the course of a decade-long career, Chin has racked up a long list of achievements, photographing and filming some of the world’s top athletes and explorers while also participating in death-defying expeditions of his own. An extreme explorer, his photography…

Classical Paintings Seamlessly Blend into Modern-Day Scenes in Brilliant Photoshop Collages

In Gabriel Nardelli Araujo’s The Canvas Project, classically painted figures of centuries past seem to have leapt off the canvas to explore the modern-day world. The Portuguese artist uses Photoshop to collage the characters from famous museum paintings into his own contemporary photographs of public spaces around the globe, where they appear to brush elbows with today's tourists. Whether plopped onto the streets of New York City, posed before a Glasgow subway station, or poised in São Paulo's parks and gardens, his re-imagined portrayals of historic subjects are both playful and thought-provoking, encouraging viewers to reconsider the perpetual interaction between past and present cultures.

26-year-old Araujo studied urban architecture at Brazil's Universidade Federal de Minas…

Photographer Flips and Folds the World to Create Surreal Inception-Like Landscapes

Architect and photo manipulator Laurent Rosset lives his life by the motto of creating one's dreams. His surreal photo series certainly seem inspired by an out-of-control daydream, one where landscapes can twist upon themselves like giant waves, and characters submerge with the world all around them. Rosset shares a disorienting perspective through his photography, absorbing one into a land of fantasy.

The Italian artist typically begins with his own composites (although he does collaborate with other photographs occasionally) and, through a series of tweaks, creates phenomenal new worlds. He explains that through his images he is attempting to introduce the possible realities which are tangible in…

Heartfelt Moments of Mothers Supporting Their Daughters Through Childbirth

When an expectant mom goes into labor, they’ve got at least one person who knows exactly what they’re going through—their own mother. These familiar faces are a beacon of constant support in one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences that the soon-to-be mom will face.

Through it all, birth photographers document this special and emotional time from beginning to end. TheInternational Association of Professional Birth Photographers—an organization that provides resources to expectant parents, photographers, and other birth professionals—worked with The Huffington Post to compile a collection of images in which mothers are assisting…

Towering Waves Over 50 Feet High Showcase Awe-Inspiring Power of Mother Nature

Photographer Luke Shadbolt captures the duality of nature—its ability to create as well as destroy—in a striking series called Maelstrom. Focusing on ocean waves, the Australian photographer highlights their stunning power at moments when they’re about to crash into the water. These fleeting white-capped crests—standing between 50 and 100 feet high—are awe-inspiring as they display the immense power that Mother Nature holds. With such beauty comes chaos, however, and it’s evident that the force they produce will affect all that surrounds them.

Photographing this series was pure serendipity for Shadbolt. “I’d just taken a quick lunch break when the set that created this confusing formation rolled in,” he told…

Couple's Magical Hogwartz Wedding Is the Ultimate Homage to Harry Potter

If a wedding is any reflection of a couple, newlyweds Cassie and Lewis Byrom have made it perfectly clear who they are—massive fans of Harry Potter. After getting engaged at Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter last year, they recently held Potter-themed nuptials at Manchester Town Hall. Cassie and Lewis even included a reading fromOrder of the Phoenix in the marriage ceremony!

The couple wore a traditional wedding dress and suit but still made a playful nod to the iconic series. Cassie donned a Hogwarts garter and mismatched House heels underneath her dress, while Lewis had Marauder’s Map cuff links attached to his sleeves. Additionally, actual pages from the books were cleverly incorporated into the bride’s bouquet and the groom’s boutonniere as intricate paper flowers.

The reception, held in Manchester’s Midland Hotel, was where the Byroms’…

Vogue Invited Met Gala Guests to Pose in Its Futuristic Tunnel Photo Booth

In an age of gifs and videos, who needs stationary portraits? This forward-thinking idea is precisely why Vogue Magazine decided to forego the traditional photo booth at this year’s Met Gala and opted to offer the fashionably futuristic guests an opportunity to create a video portrait. In collaboration with filmmaker Gordon von Steiner, Vogue had a tiny set inspired by the event’s Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology theme. “The idea is to take the traditional photo booth and flip it on its head,” the New York-based creative explained to Instagram Blog, “to create something futuristic and unexpected.”

Each participant was invited into a lively tunnel with pulsating tubes of light lining the walls. How they chose to pose was…

Artist Weaves Together Hundreds of Photos to Form Otherworldly Tribute to Nature

Artist Ysbel LeMay's collage composites draw the viewer into her ethereal kingdom. Created using hundreds of individual photographs merged into one, the Canadian-born artist  constructs her images piece by piece until she is happy with the final fusions. The resulting hypnotic composites weave fragments of plants, animals, and elements into “panoramas of natural splendour” that take cues from the real world but are ultimately something much more mystical.

Born and raised in Quebec, Canada, LeMay held a career in the advertising world for 15 years, where she honed her visual talents in graphic design and art direction. Unsatisfied with this lifestyle, she shifted her focus to the more rewarding world of art and photography. LeMay now prioritizes creating her hypercollages, the background in visuals providing her an understanding of color arrangements and harmony that she is able to…

"Humans of New York" Explores the Intimate Stories of Guests at the Met Gala

On a typical day, Humans of New York founder and photographer Brandon Stanton snaps portraits of the average passersby he encounters on the streets of New York City and other international locales—not sleek shots of chic celebrities. So, when Vogue invited Stanton to photograph Monday's black tie Met Gala, an exclusive fundraising event for high-fashion VIPs, he took a different approach than his other camera-wielding compatriots.

As he did at last year's Gala, Stanton chatted for up to ten minutes with each of his subjects, approaching a-listers and employees alike with his trademark soft-spoken demeanor. The resulting images capture the true personality beneath the stylish suits and gowns,…

LARPers Hilariously Photobomb Engagement Photo Shoot in Full Historic Battle Garb

Before their happily-ever-after, this bride- and groom-to-be had to contend with a few feisty role players, who (playfully) photobombed their engagement photo shoot in full historic battle garb, complete with shields and weaponry.

Ontario-based photographer Alex (of Alexandria Photography) explains to PetaPixel that she and the happy couple were in the middle of their styled session at Malden Park in Windsor, where the two lovebirds posed on the grass with their dog, when “all of a sudden a group of people who looked like they belonged to another era—in full armor—started walking into my shot!”

Though initially mistaken for LARPers, the strangers turned out to be…

Ballerina Expresses Raw Emotions through Portraits of Delicate Dance Movements

Dancers use their bodies as finely-tuned instruments, communicating thoughts and feelings through movement. As Olga Kuraeva explains to Instagram Blog, to her, dance is “neither a philosophy nor a job” but a means of expressing emotion. Kuraeva’s Instagram account overflows with the young woman's power and grace, the stunning photographs of her body in movement telling spellbinding stories.

Kuraeva dances with the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, one of the oldest schools for classical ballet training. The intensive time and effort that has gone into her development as both an artist and dancer is highly apparent in the breathtaking composites that capture Kuraeva in motion. The ballerina admits to preferring photography and…

Instagrammer Shares Adventures Through the Tasty Treats She Eats Around the World

Food is a tasty way to experience the world. When traveling, it offers a sampling of local culture—not only of its palette, but its dining customs, too. Melissa Hie incorporates this delicious form of sightseeing into her popular Instagram account called Girl Eat World. Each photo in her feed follows the same format: a hand displays a tasty treat in front of the backdrop from which it was bought. The resulting images are both mouthwatering and clever ways to enjoy different landscapes across the globe.

Travel is a high priority for Hie, and she started her adventures in 2009 after a solo move to Singapore. In 2010, she went on a short trip to Thailand and was officially hooked on visiting new places. Girl Eat World started a few years later, once she trekked across Europe alone. “During the trip, I…

Disney World Offers New Wedding Experience Letting Brides Be Cinderella for a Day

“A dream is a wish your heart makes,” says Cinderella—and for engaged couples with a particular soft spot for the princess' story, that wish just might come true. Disney Weddings has recently announced a newly sanctioned wedding venue at its Florida resort: the East Plaza Garden, which sits at the end of Magic Kingdom Park's Main Street, just in front of Cinderella's castle.

Though fairytale fanatics have held weddings at Disney World for years, the Railroad Train Station is the only other allowed setting within Magic Kingdom Park. Of the 35 total venues, many are located at Epcot, with a few at Disney's…

Striking Photo-Essay Follows Young Woman Living Off-the-Grid in Wild Northern Finland

Through his stunning visual project known as No Signal, photographer Brice Portolano shares the remarkable stories of people who have chosen to escape from a highly urbanized lifestyle and reconnect with nature. Arctic Love is the first of four striking photoessays in the series, which follows a young woman named Tinja who lives 180 miles from the nearest town. Portolano has documented her distinctive lifestyle in the wilderness where she raises 85 sled dogs and lives off the hauntingly beautiful Finnish land.

Tinja survives completely off-the-grid, cooking from a wood stove, using candles to light her home, and fetching water from a river where she has to break the frozen surface each…

Father and His Tiny Astronaut Son Explore Earth Together in Adorable Photo Project

We tell kids that the sky’s the limit when it comes to exploring the world’s possibilities, but we tend to forget to embrace that wisdom in our own lives, as we get bogged down in the day-to-day responsibilities of adulthood. Photographer Aaron Sheldon has revived a starry-eyed, childlike curiosity for our most menial errands and activities, thanks to his four-year-old son, who models as a tiny astronaut in their collaborative photo series calledSmall Steps Are Giant Leaps.

Sheldon explains that the concept first came to him during a bus ride with his mini-me, who was totally transfixed by the mode of transportation that felt so commonplace to his…
