Kawhi Leonard’s Quiet Road to Stardom
When it comes to the world of professional basketball, most players enjoy being in the public eye, where they can show off their fame and fortune. We don’t often see players who prefer to play for the love of the game and not the fame—players like the 28-year-old Kawhi Leonard.
 
Earlier this year, the quiet Kawhi led the Toronto Raptors in their most successful season yet, when they won the NBA (National Basketball Association) championship for the first time in history. Kawhi joined the team in 2018 and was also named the NBA Finals MVP (Most Valuable Player) for the second time in his career. The first time he won the award was in 2014, when he helped the San Antonio Spurs to their fifth championship. He hopes to do the same for his new team, the Los Angeles Clippers.
 
With his extremely large hands and ability to score from anywhere on the court, the “Klaw” continues to rise through the ranks of the NBA. He has already gone from a skilled rookie to an All-Star and MVP, yet he remains one of the most humble players in the game.

Born in California, Kawhi is the youngest of five children. His father, whom he was very close to, owned a car wash where Kawhi used to help out whenever he had time. But tragedy struck the family in 2008, when Kawhi’s father was shot and killed. This motivated Kawhi to cherish his time and give his best on the court, saying “I try to play as hard as I can each night. That’s what my father wanted me to do.”
 
Kawhi stands out from many other NBA stars in part because he is very down-to-earth. For instance, after he signed a US＄94 million contract, he continued to drive the same beat-up SUV that he had owned since high school. He also prefers to keep his private life private and does not even have a social media account.
 
In Kawhi’s case, he is living proof that with enough hard work and persistence, greatness can be achieved. His humble attitude and instincts on the court have served him well on the road to success, making him one of the best role models in the NBA today.
