How likely is it for a U.S. citizen to be detained in China
6park.comHow likely is it for a U.S. citizen to be detained in China when visiting on a tourist visa? 6park.com 6park.comIf you do not do anything illegal extremely unlikely.
That’s all there is to it.
What you see is that many Americans who go to China who do something illegal break the law etc and play innocent and coy and then cry that there is no rule of law.
They of course neglect to mention any of the illegal or shady stuff that they did that got them arrested in the first place.
This is not unique to China it happens all over Asia.
China? Lets rewind to 2013:

The story English man hits a woman on his motorbike. CHINESE netizens slam her for being a greedy bitch and to be faking it. The person in question goes on reddit and makes a huge AMA about how Chinese are racists and how he’s being racially profiled with 100s of slurs and anti Chinese posts and how he’s done NOTHING wrong.
CCTV video comes out, indeed the woman is hit by this man.
On further investigation. The motorbike was illegal - No number plates, no insurance and no license. He is working illegally on a tourist visaHis dad also in China is working illegally on a tourist visa Then eventually the truth comes out but everybody has forgotten about it by then but the outrage from that event continues.

He got arrested and deported from China. He fled to Hong Kong and then went to SCMP and lied to them about how he did NOTHING in China whatsoever and was arbitrarily detained and deported.
He had a huge reddit AMA with 1000s of racist /r/China posters talking about there’s no rule of law! People being arrested for NOTHING.
3 days later. CCTV video shows him attacking somebody and stealing their phone.
Further investigation shows he was working illegally on a business visa something that is not allowed.
But yet again China bad!
