The Maserati Ghibli is hunting executives, saloons that is. The BMW 5 Series and Audi A7 are firmly in Maseratis sights. Adding style and the Maserati drive plus introduction of a diesel model means the Ghibli is a genuine challenger for the likes of the BMW 530, and thanks to the splendid seats and supple interior the Ghibli is a comfortable cruiser as well. Maserati didn’t compromise any values with the Ghibli either as it is available with two powerful petrol V6’s with up to 404bhp meaning it appeals to performance blood as well. Overall the Ghibli manages to be both an appealing athlete and an Italian executive at the same time.

Built off the Quattroporte the Ghibli carries its big brothers signature. Steering is accurate and fun. The sport model all but eliminates body roll and instills a nimbleness into the driver. The Interior is smooth and quiet under motion, while the 8 speed gearbox has great cruising potential. Available adjustable suspension gives the Ghibli a Jekyll and Hyde personality, a snotty beast sticking corners or a formidable intellect arriving stylishly. Bolstered seats are more than supportive but not to the point of uncomfortable racing buckets. 

Even though it is still untested in crash safety tests the Ghibli is expected to collect a 5 star ranking. The Ghibli features seven airbags, anti-whiplash headrests and a rigid structure with protection in mind. 

A 500-litre trunk is more than acceptable for your golfing utensils or family luggage, although the sloping roof does impact rear headroom for larger passengers.

The Ghibli enters the luxury saloon game in the top echelon, carrying impressive standard baggage like leather seats, automatic climate control, xenon headlights, keyless start, a parking camera, A/C and heated seats and an 8.4-inch touchscren sat-nav. 

The Maserati carries an almost $10,000 premium over its competitors however that is a price tag of exclusivity. The Ghibli performs like a top level Maserati at a discounted price that should make it attractive to BMW, Audi and Jaguar shoppers. Maserati is banking on that with expectations they will move 50,000 Ghibli’s by 2015.
