Woman dies in collision at 401 & Dixie
A 25-year-old woman has died after the car she was in was struck by an SUV on Highway 401 near Dixie Road.
The crash occurred on the eastbound collector lanes at 3 a.m. on Friday.
The Nissan Altima was ripped open when it was rear-ended by a Ford SUV. The bumper of the Nissan was pushed into the backseat.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said it appears the Nissan was either disabled
or driving very slowly in the right lanes, straddling the shoulder when
it was hit by the SUV.
“We’re right on the top of the crest of a hill. The driver may not
have seen the vehicle until they approached it very closely,” Schmidt
said.
The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV received minor injuries when his vehicle rolled onto its roof.
The eastbound collector lanes were closed for the collision investigation but have since reopened. 6park.com
