Presented is my translation of a beloved serenade from China, originally titled "草原之夜" (Night on the Grasslands), from its 1959 movie appearance. I've adapted the title to "The Eastern Serenade" to capture its essence for English-speaking audiences. The translated song was performed by an artificial voice, but I believe that a rendition featuring human vocals and instrumental accompaniment would greatly enhance its beauty.
The night breathes quiet beauty, serene and still
My lone guitar weeps over the grassy hill
I pen a letter for my love, radiant and bright
Yet no messenger can reach her ‘neath moonlit night
la la la ~~~
Yet no messenger can reach her ‘neath moonlit night
Waiting for the winter’s icy hold to loosen and fade
My heart yearns for spring’s sweet kiss to serenade
When vibrant blooms paint the land anew
My love will return to our music true
la la la ~~~
My love will return to our music true
