3. Kora (转山) is the Tibetan term for “circumambulation” – walking around something. It is a form of pilgrimage and meditation shared by both Tibetan buddhist and Bon traditions. It is believed that through this ritual, religious merits will be obtained, and an enlightened mind will result from purifying negative karma by taxing the body. Kora is fundamentally simple, the pilgrim walks in a circle around a né (holy site). A holy site may be as small as a simple shrine or temple, or as huge as a mountain or lake. A pilgrim may chant mantra and hum prayers, count rosary beads and spin prayer wheels.
