* Namtso : A highland lake in the middle of Tibetan plateau, with elevation 4718 m, and area of 1920 km², and surrounded by the mountain range Nyenchen Tanglha (highest elevation 7162 m). In Tibetan, “nam” means sky, “tso” means lake ; literally “sky lake” or “lake in heaven” (天湖). 6park.com

A poignant legend has it that.. Nam was a stunningly beautiful herdsmaid who was in love with her sweetheart Nyenchen Tanglha (meaning “sacred mountain on the plateau”). To prove the purity and loyalty of her love, she ventured into the Forest of Curse, which cast a curse that if she could walk out before sunrise, she could have her love; otherwise she will have to pay with her life. Sadly, she could not find her way out by daybreak, died and turned into this lake, Namtso. Nyenchen finally found her, so heart-stricken, he turned into this mountain range, Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains and laid by her side for eternity. The turquoise water of the lake is said to be their tears. Namtso Lake is highly revered by Tibetans as one of the three famous sacred lakes on the Plateau. 6park.com
